Look Carrie!

Winter salad with lettuce, roasted butternut squash, white beans, toasted pecans, dried cranberries. Mmm.

What? Again??

Came home Sunday to find Beau thusly dressed:

Yes, once again, he unwittingly donned his brother's jeans. (See February 8, 2007 post.)

At what point can boys be trusted to reliably dress themselves???

BC Hockey Game

Friday night we went to a Boston College hockey game. BC Eagles v. the Providence Friars. Tickets courtesy Julie and family. Thanks Julie!

The BC campus is only about 3.5 miles from our house -- as the crow flies. But, of course, our van doesn't fly. In the rain at the tail end of rush hour, it took 30+ minutes to get to the campus. Then of course, we had to park and get into the area. Got to our seats just in time for the player introductions before first face-off. College hockey is a pretty rough sport, but it was a fun, fast-paced game. I think I counted only three broken sticks, and the players are so fast and smooth, I never even noticed the (constant) shift changes.

Providence scored the first two goals. BC scored two goals in the second period. But with 5 minutes left in the third period, Providence scored a third goal. So BC lost their first game after a 7-game winning streak, and Providence won for the first time on BC ice in four years -- or something like that.

Oh, and in the seats right behind us was a Mite hockey teammate of Casey's and his family. Small world.

January 14: Snow Day

Monday, January 14, a snowstorm closed the schools for the day. Oh hurray! I needed a practice run before the scheduled Monday holiday of January 21...

It was a heavy, wet snow.

It even bent the trees over.

The kids loved it. They spent the morning building a snow fort and the afternoon sledding.

Trixie stayed in bed.

The Kids' First Ski Experience

On January 6 we took the kids downhill skiing for the first time.

Unfortunately, they loved it.
