(Actually, the shoes are in the oven in an attempt to warm the leather so it'll soak up the waterproofing wax, but still... it's pretty funny.)

Makes me think of the fun I had backpacking with my son - now the dad doing the same with his son - though of course, we never did anything nearly as cold!!!! And never had to bake shoes :). Hope the replacement base layer has arrived - should have taken your advice about size, Robin.
