Our Garden

This is our second season cultivating a plot in a nearby community garden. The garden is about four blocks from here -- a nice walkable distance, even with the kids. Although, on a hot day, stopping for an Italian ice helps reduce the whining.

This year we got an early start and spring was mild, so many things were grown from seeds rathing than purchased seedlings. Sadly, the peas didn't fare well. We think something (rabbits?) ate the seedlings, but we're not sure since the other seedlings were unmolested. We've already harvested strawberries, lettuce and small beets; the tomatoes and peppers are coming along; and last weekend we harvested our first handful of pole beans -- so tender and yummy and fresh that even Casey ate one (but only one).

Here you see Beau in front of the pole beans and some magnificently healthy squash plants -- if they would also produce some squash!
